DAY ONE to DAY SIX - Explore, capture, and immerse yourself in the Kimberley region

Day 1

Kununurra to Lake Argyle Our adventure starts in Kununurra and we travel to the amazing Lake Argyle for our first leg of the adventure.

Day 2

Lake Argyle Today, we explore the breathtaking Lake Argyle located east of Kununurra. To fully appreciate this remarkable landscape, which was originally inhabited by the Mirriwung Gajjerong people, we will take you on a sunset cruise to capture images of the local wildlife and vibrant hues of the sunset.

Day 3

Lake Argyle to El Questro We leave Lake Argyle, journeying along the Gibb River Road while enjoying the picturesque Cockburn Ranges, eventually reaching the vicinity of El Questro Wilderness Park, home to the inviting Zebedee Springs.

Day 4

El Questro We will experience the thermal pools of Zebedee Springs, taking in the stunning scenery, and enjoying the soothing warm waters amidst the palm trees. Later in the day we'll explore the breathtaking El Questro Gorge, characterised by its red cliffs lined with palm trees.

Day 5

El Questro to Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge Today, we embark on a journey along the breathtaking Great Northern Highway, traversing the stunning Kimberley landscapes en route to the iconic Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park.

Day 6

Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles) Day 6 of our adventure will involve discovering the domes of Piccaninny Creak, the magnificent Cathedral Gorge and opportunities for sunrise, sunset and blue hour photography sessions. A bonus optional helicopter flight may also be on offer on this day (TBC).

Day 7

Return to Kununurra We will return to Kununurra where we will finish our photography adventure and say our farewells.

What’s included in Adventure prices?

EVERYTHING!

Well almost! Just get yourself to our meeting point and we'll take care of the rest. Our workshops are all-inclusive. We handle all your accommodation, gourmet meals, drinks, and expert tuition. All you need to do is sit back and enjoy your photographic adventure! That's what our participants like most about our Adventures. They book the Adventure and we handle the rest.

What fitness level is required?

A good level of fitness is always best to ensure you can participate fully in the workshop and have a fantastic time. If you're unsure, just give us a call and we can discuss it.

We cater for the majority of people who don't want to walk too far or do anything too stressful!

What camera do I need?

A mirrorless camera or digital SLR is ideal. An iPhone, whilst it takes great photos, won't give you flexibility to capture the photos you see here on this website. You don't need to spend thousands on expensive gear to join the adventure we help you get epic photos with the gear you have.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Travel Insurance is compulsory for multi-day tours. This prevents you from financial loss in the case of falling unwell or the like...

What is the difference between a Private room and shared room?

Our private room option is for those who would like a room to themselves during the adventure.

Our shared room option is also called "Twin share" and is for 2 people sharing the same room (separate beds).

You can either request to room with someone you know or simply book in yourself and we can match you with another suitable twin sharer of the same sex. Any questions, call John on 0427004276

Couples: Please let us know if you're a couple and we can arrange a king or queen bed also.

What’s not included?

Not much! Once you arrive on location we joke that you could literally loose your wallet and it wouldn't matter! Expenses outside the workshop fee is generally your personal purchases like souvenirs…

How experienced do I need to be?

None at all, to be honest. The reason you come on a adventure like this is to learn and grow as a photographer, so we'd expect you not to know everything! However, some knowledge of photography is a bonus.

What other equipment should I bring?

Tripod, laptop, clothes and toiletries. You don't need much. A full gear list is included in all itineraries. You can down load this via each workshop page.

We also email more details later to ensure you are as prepared as possible.

What type of accommodation do we stay in?

We always look for the best possible locations for our accommodation and, if possible, book 4-5 star accommodation with great food and coffee (and an extensive wine list! Joking!!).

That said, in some remote locations there are not as many choices. However, if you have ever toured with us, you know that the accommodation is always amazing!

How many guides are on each tour?

Our tours operate with 2 guides to maximise the support and experience we can offer you. This is rare but makes all the difference to your experience.

John Adams

With 25 years as a professional photographer John is experienced and super passionate about photography and sharing his photography skills and experiences with others.

Whether it be capturing the milky way, a thunderstorm that is literally lighting up the night sky or a crazy good sunset, John’s your man. John started Adventure Art Photography to inspire others to experience that same creative learning though photography adventures. John lives in the Adelaide Hills with his wife Alicia and 2 sons who also enjoy there photography. John would love to meet you on an adventure soon. :)

Paul Thomsen

Paul Thomsen has been photographing the amazing landscapes and wildlife of the TopEnd for over 35 years and has been doing it professionally for over 10 years

In the last few years he started doing his photography and tours full-time. He is well known throughout the Darwin region and is one of the leading photographers in the area. His prints, calendars, workshops, mentoring and tours have been enjoyed by many both local and beyond. He has lived in the Top End region all his life and as a person proud of his indigenous heritage understands the bush and the creatures throughout. His work is a testament to his ability to get intimate with creation and his style brings the viewer into the world of the subject – and this is always his goal.
